Skirts, organza, visible stitching: spring 2027 gets lighter

Milan put the skirt centre stage, Paris turned air into a material, and craft stepped out of the lining. Plus a look at the leathers heading into winter 2027/28.

Skirts, organza, visible stitching: spring 2027 gets lighter

You can read a season in three things: what is worn below the waist, what it is made of, and where you can see how it was made. The past two weeks between Milan and Paris answer all three. Spring/summer 2027 turns out lighter than expected, and anything but careless.

The skirt is a main character again

At Milan Fashion Week the skirt stopped being the alternative to trousers. As FashionUnited reports, one of the opening collections was built almost entirely on skirts: grey pleats, straight cuts in green or red, layers of crinoline, floral prints, worn under leather coats.

The news is in the materials. Pleated nylon that reads as cotton, cotton engineered to look like leather or suede, even velcro lifted into luxury. Slim, androgynous silhouettes, almost always with a heel. The idea, as that collection framed it: the skirt is a contemporary object because it is flexible and adaptable.

Paris works with air

In Paris the word of the week is lightness. In the The National round-up of 6 October, organza, silk mousseline and sheer fabrics dominate, with fluid, asymmetric tailoring, slips and thin-strapped dresses. Air becomes a material.

For buyers the point is not transparency itself but weight: pieces that weigh little and layer well, from transitional weather into summer. A light fabric forgives less, which is why it shows at once who worked it.

Craft shows

Also per The National, Paris put identity and craft ahead of spectacle. Couture techniques reach everyday garments, with visible stitching even in ready-to-wear, alongside perforated suede and open knits.

The materials mentioned include recycled polyester and lab-grown wool, laminated jersey and wet-look finishes. A clear signal: modernity is measured in how a garment is built, not only in its surface.

Lineapelle looks to winter 2027/28

Meanwhile, in September, Lineapelle gathered more than a thousand exhibitors at Fiera Milano Rho, from 15 to 17 September. The Fashion Committee presented autumn/winter 2027/28 trends under the title “Prompt – Seductive Algorithms: The Illusion of Sweetness”.

The programme also included talks on materials research, traceability and sustainability, with Simac Tanning Tech and FILO covering machinery and yarns. It is the least visible side of Italian fashion, and the place where the next seasons begin.

In brief

  • The skirt leads Milan: new materials, slim shapes.
  • Paris goes for lightness: organza, mousseline, sheers.
  • Visible stitching is the new signature: craft is part of the style.
  • Lineapelle has already opened the road to winter 2027/28.
